因屏東縣政府推動檳榔廢園運動，鼓勵農民轉作其他作物，且檳榔價格不斷低落，為轉型廣益青果生產合作社於6年前去埔里學習百香果的栽種技術並在2年後在高雄區農改場研究出從燈光照明去調節百香果的產期，讓民眾能提前在三到六月就可以吃到春天百香果。
硫黃百香果名稱由來：早期客家六堆各擁武力，據說當時萬巒全鄉製造砲火的硫磺均藏於硫黃村內，正是現今廣益合作社所在地，因此農民們決議，為建立市場差異性與品牌識別度，百香果品種選用有如紫水晶般亮麗的「台農一號」，而出品的百香果，就稱為「硫黃百香果」！
因硫黃百香果的栽種成果非常成功更吸引了老農與返鄉青農一起共同創造產業。
