路透社報導，蒲亭（Vladimir Putin）利用這個集會合理化對烏克蘭的入侵，對著數以萬計揮舞國旗的群眾承諾，俄國政府的所有目標都會實現。他告訴集會群眾，俄國將在烏克蘭勝出。
在蒲亭發表演說時，俄國國營電視台曾暫停播放他的演說，播出先前預錄的愛國歌曲影片，蒲亭的影象隨後重回電視畫面。
蒲亭告訴魯茲尼基體育館的群眾：「我們知道自己須做什麼，如何進行及代價為何。而我們絕對會達成所有計畫。」
他強調：「他們（俄國軍人）肩並肩，幫助彼此，互相扶持，在有需要的時候，他們以肉身保護對方，免於子彈的傷害，就像兄弟一樣。我們已經很久沒有出現如此的團結。」
英國廣播公司（BBC）也報導，在俄軍併吞烏克蘭克里米亞8年後，俄國民眾昨天揮舞國旗在魯茲尼基體育館慶祝，而學校也有特別課程。
據報導，俄國公務人員被迫參與這次活動。在學校裡，老師們教導紀念「克里米亞之春」（Crimeanspring）的課程。
根據烏克蘭基輔獨立報（The Kyiv Independent），至少有8萬1000人參加這場挺戰爭的集會。俄國當局聲稱，有逾20萬人出席這次活動，慶祝俄國2014年併吞克里米亞。
